Frutado comes from the large estate of Rio Brilhante in Cerrado Mineiro, within the micro-region of Pântano owned by the Urban family. Inácio Carlos Urban, the founder of Rio Brilhante, saw an opportunity for the undesirable land in Cerrado Mineiro in 1984. He planted 20 hectares of coffee trees on the cheap land that he purchased to find out its potential and learn what it was like to grow coffee.
Over the last 40 years, the 20-hectare coffee farm has grown to an impressive 2000+ hectares that is run by Inácio and his children. Focusing on improving their sustainability, the Urban family has achieved Rainforest Allience Certification. On their coffee farm, they grow varietals of Bourbon, Catuaí, Catucai, and Topázio.
